In the final meeting of the men’s singles competition, the 19-year-old tennis player lost 5:7, 3:6 against Spaniard Alejandro Moro Canas (ATP-218) in a battle of 2 hours and 6 minutes.

The last games of the first set of the final were particularly painful for the Lithuanian tennis talent.

In it, V.Gaubas was behind at one point with the result 1:4 and 0:40, but then he took control of the game in his own hands, won four games without a reply and was able to close the game after taking a 5:4 lead with his own serves.

However, the Lithuanian could not do that, and in the end, two more lost games in a row followed, and the set was lost – 5:7.

In the second set, the representative of Spain immediately jumped ahead with the result 3:0 and marched confidently to the finish line. It is the first Challenger title for the 23-year-old, who defeated Grand Slam champion Dominic Thiem at the ATP tournament in Munich last week.

Having landed in the first final of the Challenger tournament of his career, V. Gaub should not be too sad about the outcome of the final meeting. The young talent, who won as many as six victories this week in the Italian capital, earned 6,015 US dollars and 44 ATP ranking points, which will allow him to open the door to the Top 300 for the first time in his career in the new ATP ranking – he is projected for the 283rd place.

V.Gaub’s next stop should be the “Challenger” tournament in Austria in a week – with “NextGen” status, our compatriot will start in the main competitions.
