Important news for those planning to visit Venice – a new tax has been introduced

--

From now on, Venice welcomes tourists with colorful posters that will explain to visitors to the city how to buy a one-day ticket and who will be able to check it. This tourist season, such a ticket will be needed only for those tourists who will arrive in Venice from April 25th until mid-July. A total of 29 days, including summer weekends.

“This is a test. This is the first step to a new level of the city’s actions in the field of tourism. The goal is to encourage day-trippers not to go here during those 29 days. On the other hand, we will be able to know in advance how many people will visit Venice on these days,” said Dimone Venturini, a member of the Venice Municipal Council.

The Venetian authorities assure that if the city is overcrowded, tourists will not be allowed into Venice, but, basically, this is the essence of this project. So, it is possible that it may not be so easy to buy a one-day ticket during peak days.

Last year, the number of beds for rent for tourists in Venice already exceeded the number of residents of the city. They are really inconvenienced by such mass tourism, but people need housing, kindergartens and schools, not another tax from tourists.

“If they fix the thousands of abandoned houses we have in this city, that would be a positive thing, even though I’m against it.” It won’t happen. Residents continue to leave the city, the city is emptying, and in this city we are only expanding tourism,” said Nicola Ussardi, a resident of Venice.

“The introduction of a ticket to enter the city will not reduce the number of visitors by a single person,” claimed Venice resident and activist Tommaso Cacciari.

Ordinary tourists who spend a lot of money to visit the legendary Venice for at least one day will certainly not be happy that their trips will become even more expensive.

“It all depends on where this money goes. If they are used to maintain the bridges and preserve the canals to make Venice more beautiful, it could be a positive thing,” shared the insights of a tourist from Mexico.
