Basketball brings Lithuanians together across the Atlantic: a compatriots’ tournament was held in Colorado

On a beautiful Saturday morning, the organizers of the event gathered their strength, stubbornness and good energy and invited Coloradans to the “3×3” basketball tournament. It’s no secret that basketball enchants both young and old, so more than half a dozen participants gathered at the event, and fans came to support them. The youngest participant (fan) of the event is only nine months old, but his support was very much needed by dad and dad’s team.

There were even several competitions for the gathered children. Did only one child compete? Absolutely not! Mothers and fathers participated with their children, so there was a real family competition without defeat. Everyone was awarded with prizes, and most importantly, a good mood and time with their family at the Lithuanian school.

After the children’s competition, men from Colorado, for whom basketball is like a second religion, joined the battles of the “3×3” basketball tournament. Children had fun watching fathers or their friends, acquaintances “fight” for the ball, three-pointers or free throws. And how much children’s laughter and applause there was when the ball ended up in the basket. The playoffs were very tough. Even three teams enjoyed the winners’ cups. Participants’ prizes were awarded to each participant of the “3×3” tournament.

We thank the Lithuanian community in the USA and the Lithuanian Foundation for financial support, and all the organizers, participants, spectators and, of course, the support team for a day during which we enjoyed sports excitement, joked, congratulated each other on the victories and agreed to repeat all this in Colorado already this fall.
