A Russian soldier accidentally filmed their own howitzer exploding

--

In the video, Russian forces can be seen filming the explosion of the 2S5 Giatsint-S self-propelled howitzer in an open field. It is unclear what caused the explosion or whether the system was damaged beyond repair.

An open-source intelligence account sharing the footage claims the video was shot on April 22.

On Monday, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry shared footage it said showed a US-made HIMARS high-mobility artillery missile system firing at a Russian 2S5 Giatsint-S howitzer.

The portal “Newsweek” reports that artillery is a very important part of the hostilities between Moscow and Kyiv, which may depend on how much damage the opposing side will suffer. In recent months, Kyiv has been very concerned about dwindling ammunition stocks, with shortages severely limiting Kyiv’s capabilities

Russia shoots more

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia could fire 10 times more shells than Ukrainian troops, meaning Moscow was “pushing us back every day.”

On Saturday, the House of Representatives approved more than 56 billion EUR aid to Ukraine, which was stuck in the Congress session for several months. At the moment, requests for munitions are increasing as Ukrainian officials warn that Russia is preparing for a summer offensive. At the end of February, V. Zelenskyi said that this new offensive could begin as early as the end of May.

“Problems will arise from mid-May,” Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence service, told the BBC Ukraine service in an article published on Monday.

“In the near future, we will face a rather difficult situation,” he added. “But it’s not catastrophic, and we have to understand that.”
