“Killer No. 1”, “Relentless hired killer”, “The most mysterious person in the criminal history of Lithuania”, these are just some of the nicknames of one of the fiercest Lithuanian hired killers. But “Ben the Ripper” is the one that stuck with him the most.
The former folk craftsman, a professional carver, whose Mother of God still stands on the Hill of Crosses near Šiauliai, was sent to serve in an elite forge for the training of contract killers and the most professional spies – the school of the Supreme Intelligence Directorate (GRU) near Moscow.
Alvydas Juodris, or simply Ben, became a mystery while he was still alive, so it is not surprising that he became even bigger when he died.
The nickname “Ben the Ripper” alone was terrifying not only to Lithuanian criminal schools, but also to Russian cities ruled by representatives of the criminal world of the 1990s – Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad or Riga, the capital of Latvia.
The murders attributed to him were recorded not only in Lithuania, but also in Russia, and there could have been several dozen victims. The police veterans who spoke bravely today do not hide that it was A. Juodris-Benas who was able to liquidate one of the most famous Russian journalists of all time – Vladislav Listjevs, whose killer has not been clarified to this day.
Ben is feared everywhere – among the wolves of the “zones”, among the audacious criminal authorities of the new era, or among the rich of Moscow, who are confident in themselves and their protection.
Ben, who was born in Šiauliai and spent a number of years, ended his life and history in an apartment building in Klaipėda.
There are still a lot of myths and stories about A. Juodris-Ben, but no more detailed story has been created, so we tried to take a closer look at this mysterious legend of the criminal world.
