The boxing world was stunned last week Ryan Garcia victory over Devin Haney. The Lithuanian WBA world champion did not expect such an outcome of the fight Eestate Stanionis.
“I sparred with Devin once. Everything went well that time. I thought Haney would do his thing in the ring and win the fight. Seeing what’s going on with Ryan, all his social media antics, I thought he didn’t stand a chance, but he proved me wrong. It was a well-deserved victory for Ryan. I thought if Ryan could do anything against Devin, it would be in the first 4-5 rounds. Haney kept saying before the fight that Ryan could only do one thing, the left hand hook. It’s crazy that Ryan caught Devin with that punch,” E. Stanionis told FightHype.
The Lithuanian noted that he would be happy to see a rematch, but R. Garcia hinted that he will not return to that weight category.
“Obviously a rematch would be exciting and help them make a lot of money, but Ryan said he’s not going back to 140 pounds and moving up. I’m here too”, laughed E. Stanionis.
According to E.Stanionis, if R.Garcia stayed in the 140-pound category as well Gervonta “Tank” Davis would agree to give the American a rematch, R. Garcia would still lose that fight.
“Garcia can do whatever he wants now. He has a lot of options. He can fight at 140 pounds, welterweight or 147 pounds. He even talked about going up to 154 pounds and fighting Fundora. However, boxers in the 147-pound division are larger than those in the 140-pound division. I doubt whether Garcia could be competitive here against me or Boots”, said E. Stanionis.
The Lithuanian was asked if he would now rather “unify” the belts in the fight with Jaron “Boots” Enniswould it be better to choose a “money fight” against R.Garcias.
“Money is important, especially now that I haven’t fought in 2 years. I need money, but I’m not one for money. I am not asking for some huge sums. A fight with Garcia now would be really interesting because he has a great win and promises to move up my weight class. I may have been with Garcia first, then with Boots. To be honest, I don’t know how it would be. I can fight anyone. Did I hang out with Godzilla? If he gets down to 147 pounds, then we can do it. If we had to fight in the intermediate weight category, I think we would also agree with “Godzilla”, laughed the Lithuanian.
