Brothers Dovydas and Domantas Stankūnai were the first to stand at the starting line. In the men’s single sculls, they finished third in the first of three races (06:35.30 minutes) and will continue their battle for the semifinals in the consolation races.

Immediately after them, Donata Karalienė and Dovilė Rimkutė, who became European vice-champions a year ago, started. The girls’ duo had a confident performance in the women’s double sculls, winning the first of two heats (06:56.08) to book their place in Sunday’s A final.

At that time, Žygimantas Gališanskis and Povilas Stankūnas (06:39.98 min) finished sixth in the first of three swims in the selection of men’s double sculls and will compete in the consolation swim for a place in the semi-finals on Friday.

Single rower Viktorija Senkutė made it to the A final the straightest way – she finished second in the first of two qualifying swims (07:32.65 min), ahead of only the German athlete Alexandra Foester (07:29.92 min).

Giedrius Bieliauskas, who started in the men’s singles class, also performed successfully. The Lithuanian also took second place in the first of three qualifying swims (06:51.39 min), behind only the German Oliver Zeidler (06:48.92 min) and entered the semi-finals of the championship.

The first day of the championship was completed by the start of the women’s double fours crew. Saulė Kryževičiūtė, Ieva Adomavičiūtė, Ugnė Juzėnaitė and Martyna Kazlauskaitė were fifth in the first of the two swims (06:37.21 min.) and will fight for places in the A and B finals in Friday’s consolation swim.
