29 years old Eimantas Stanionis (14-0-0, 9 KOs) will return to the ring after a 2-year hiatus. WBA regular welterweight world champion from Lithuania already this weekend, May 4. (early morning of May 5, Lithuanian time), will fight the 37-year-old Venezuelan at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (USA) Gabriel Maestre (6-0-1, 5 KOs).

Who will win the fight for the WBA regular world championship belt?

This fight was officially confirmed on Friday, when the athletes’ weigh-in ceremony took place. Journalists were not allowed into the official weigh-ins, but even before the start of the ceremonial weigh-ins, information appeared that both E. Stanionis and G. Maestre lost weight successfully.

Later, it was officially announced that E. Stanionis weighed 66.5 kg, and G. Maestre – 66.59 kg. As both fighters did not exceed the 66.68 kg limit, the title fight was confirmed. The Venezuelan is taller than the Lithuanian (179 cm vs. 173 cm) and has longer arms (185 cm vs. 173 cm).

E. Stanionis appeared at the weigh-in wrapped in the Lithuanian flag. He is the first world champion of one of the major boxing organizations to fight under the Lithuanian flag.

After the weigh-ins, Mr. Maestre was again asked about 2015. defeat against E.Stanionis: “Yes, it was difficult for me that time, but now you have to forget it, because a lot has changed since then. Now we are boxing professionals. Can’t wait for the fight. I hope to achieve the desired rematch. I want to show all the fans how much I have improved and how much strength I am ready to give in the fight against Stanionis. A championship belt would mean a lot to me. I have brought a lot of joy to the people of my country in amateur boxing, and I want to continue it among professionals. The people of Venezuela mean a lot to me.”

Meanwhile, E. Stanionis once again promised that he would demonstrate the Mexican fighting style in the ring and promised to defend the belt.

“What did I see in the opponent’s eyes? Nothing. The most important thing for me is that he came here and is ready to fight. Last time my opponent never showed up. I am very happy that I will finally be able to fight. I have been waiting for this for 2 years”, said the Lithuanian.

The main fight of the evening will take place between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Jaime Munguios. They managed to lose weight – S. Alvarez will defend the status of the undisputed world champion in this fight.
