According to the authorities, there are thousands of Belarusian intelligence agents in the country.

The Lithuanian authorities propose to cancel the temporary residence permit for Belarusians who traveled home more than once a month in the past 12 months, the Seimas website says.

The Lithuanian authorities are trying to fight against people who can or are cooperating with Belarusian special services. In her opinion, thousands of agents of the Belarusian special services are now present and moving freely in the country.

“The vast majority of Belarusians who have temporary residence permits in Lithuania return to Belarus more or less regularly. Thousands of such cases were reported last December. These people have family, friends and relatives in Belarus and return there during major holidays. However they can be recruited there and asked to perform certain intelligence functions” – it is written in a document published on the website of the Seimas of Lithuania.

The number of Belarusians who received a residence permit in Lithuania increased from 23 thousand in 2022 to 31 thousand in 2023. It is proposed to extend the cancellation of residence permits to Russian citizens as well.

In addition, the deputies suggested canceling temporary residence permits for Belarusians and Russians in Lithuania for publicly supporting Russian aggression.
