10:20 | NATO commander warns: We cannot repeat the same mistake with China as with Russia

During a visit to Berlin, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the West should not allow itself to be dependent on Chinese resources, as it has been with Russian oil and gas, according to Reuters.

He also added that China should stop supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine if it hopes to have good relations with the West. Stoltenberg says Russia critically needs support from China, which feeds its military-industrial complex with high-tech goods, especially semiconductors.

“Last year, Russia imported 90 percent of its products from China. of its own microelectronics, which is used to make missiles, tanks and airplanes. China is also trying to provide Russia with better satellite capabilities and images,” the NATO Secretary General said.

But at the same time, China insists it wants to maintain good relations with the West. According to Mr. Stoltenberg, it is impossible to “have one and the other”: to incite Russia’s war and expect good relations with the West.

The NATO Secretary General also warned Western allies not to become as dependent on China as they are on Russia.

“We made the mistake of becoming dependent on Russian oil and gas in the past. We cannot repeat this mistake with China. Dependence on its money, raw materials and technology makes us vulnerable,” emphasized J. Stoltenberg.
