When seeking additional protection, a higher value-added tax (VAT) should be considered, so the profit tax should be increased first, and then maybe others, says Laurynas Kasinas, Minister of Surveillance.

And I certainly did not rule out the possible consideration of VAT (higher rate BNS), but for the time being allocating access to other taxes, another composition that will create the t effect, which we need an additional 400,500 million. EUR per year, the minister said to journalists in iauliai.

Profit (higher tariff for BNS) is already there, that’s probably where we’ll start. After that, we will see others, he added.

According to the minister of surveillance and security, four alternatives of additional defense funding prepared by the Ministry of Finance can be created in a composition where the increase of defense funding up to 3%. gross domestic product (GDP) is considered even without VAT.

Corporate tax is inevitably an integral part of this, we will certainly not avoid it. The question is, what percentage, says L. Kasinas.

And I think that it is necessary to consider everything, understanding the fact that a certain effect for the most socially sensitive people will be amortized, said L. Kasinas.

The Minister of National Security stated that he supports the leadership of oil business associations, as well as the discussion of numerous businessmen and professional unions in solving the issue of additional defense funding.

In order to encourage the public and politicians to agree on defense funding aimed at 4% of GDP, some business associations and organizations announced on Monday that they are joining the 4 percent initiative. The campaign was initiated by the Lithuanian Business Confederation (LVK), the startup association Unicorns Lithuania and the Confederation of Lithuanian Industrialists.

In order to increase the fixed financing of search protection from 2.5% to 3% of GDP, the Ministry of Finance has prepared four options for collecting additional income for the state budget. Among them, they will try to increase the rates of tax on added value and profit, give up some tax benefits, reduce the share of income tax paid to municipalities.

Politicians and social partners will discuss these decisions in the next few weeks, and the Government hopes to announce specific decisions in mid-April.
