Until the viaduct repair works are carried out, from Užnemunė st. road users going towards the main road Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipėda will be directed to a detour (overpass at the Academy). Road users going to Užnemunė st. from the side of Marijampolė or Prienė, will be able to choose alternative routes, for example through Garliava or Noreikiške.
“No less important is the fact that after the closure of the Marvele viaduct, the speed of repair work will significantly increase, so traffic on the viaduct with fully equipped lanes will be opened before the beginning of the school year, that is, 80 days earlier than planned”, – to the news portal “What’s happening” Kaunas” said the representatives of “Via Lietuva”.
The workers who worked at the site explained that at the beginning it was not planned to completely close the overpass, but even the reduced intensity of the traffic causes quite large vibrations, so the work cannot be done. For this reason, it was decided to close the overpass completely.
In addition, bus routes will also change – public transport will also not be able to move through this transport hub.
“Due to the repair works, the route of the 18th bus VDU Agricultural Academy (Ringaudai) – Railway Station will change. Buses will follow the usual route from Ringaudui to the VMU Agricultural Academy stop, then on Universiteteto St., Šiltnamių St., Julijanavas St., Europos Ave., Veiveriau St. to the Vytautas Dijijos tilto stop, then the usual route.
From the railway station to the Vytautas Great Bridge, buses will run on the usual route, then on to Veiverių St., Europos Ave., Julijanavas St., Šiltnamių St., Universitetos St., buses will run on the usual route to Ringaudės”, commented the Transport and head of the traffic organization department, Martynas Matusevičius.
During the repair of the viaduct, as stated by M. Matusevičius, an additional bus numbered 00 will run on the route Marvelė – Kaunas Castle.
