Electricity supplier: residents will receive lower electricity bills in May

--

“The components of the state-regulated part are the part of the total electricity bill that is usually reviewed twice a year. This time, the electricity distribution operator (ESO) component decreased. The other parts – the service tariff that meets the state’s interests and the additional distribution tariff – remain unchanged,” says Mantas Kavaliauskas, head of product development at Elektrum Lietuva.

According to the expert, users will receive smaller bills in the coming days. Electricity suppliers usually provide them by the 10th day of the month, when they receive data on residents’ electricity consumption for the previous month from ESO.

Speaking about the components of the electricity price, M. Kavaliauskas reminds that it consists of two parts – the price paid to an independent supplier and the part regulated by the state. If at least one of the parts changes, the total amount due also changes.

According to M. Kavaliauskas, the second part of the bill – the components of the state-regulated part – mainly consists of the forwarding fee. It also includes the distribution fee and the service component of public interest.

VERT: electricity will cost less in the second half of the year

The State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) determined that in the second half of this year the price of electricity in the market should be lower and reach 83.53 euros per MWh (megawatt hour) or 8.353 cents per kWh (kilowatt hour).

The new market price will be valid from July 1 to December 31 of this year.

“The predicted price is determined taking into account the price differences of the trading zones of Finland and Lithuania according to the data of the Nord Pool exchange (during the last 12 calendar months – ELTA), as well as taking into account the prices of systematic and intended risk insurance instruments for the Finnish market for the last five days, their arithmetic average . Also taking into account the coefficients of (electricity – ELTA) consumption unevenness in Lithuania”, said Mantas Valužis, specialist of the Wholesale Market Department, when presenting the project at the VERT meeting on Monday.

According to him, electricity should cost 14.53 percent in the second half of this year. less than in the first part of 2024. Now, according to VERT, its price is 9.753 cents per kWh or 97.53 euros per MWh.

The market price is used to determine the annual estimate of funds for public interest services (PSI) in the electricity sector for the coming calendar year, to calculate the public price of electricity, and to determine the amounts required to be paid by the recipients of PSI funds.

VERT sets the forecast electricity price on the market for the first and second half of the next year, and also recalculates it annually for the second half of the year.
