Recently, the water level of the Neris River rose unexpectedly in Vilnius. However, on a sunny and warm weekend, the people of Vilnius were happy to be able to calmly walk along the unflooded embankments. While relaxing in this way, residents captured a funny sight on a sunny weekend – a part of the pier near the White Bridge has become detached and appears to be floating along with the river.
The funniest thing is that the residents were sitting calmly on the benches installed on the pier, as if they did not notice that something was wrong. How they got there and why, or maybe they will leave together with the pier – is not clear.
It looks like part of the jetty just came off, possibly due to rising water levels. Another option is that the mechanisms holding the pier have broken and the water is just about to carry it downstream. Together with the residents.
The municipality should return the pier to its designated place. Especially considering the fact that this is a favorite place of Vilnius residents – they come here to sit down, rest, and get away from everyday life.
