As announced by the Presidency, the head of the country will discuss the progress and plans of capacity deployment, the cooperation between Lithuania and Germany in the preparatory work with the commander of the element of the German brigade “Lithuania” Colonel Andre Hastenrath.
At the beginning of April, the initial element of the German brigade in Lithuania – approximately 20 soldiers – arrived in Lithuania.
Germany is committed to deploying a heavy brigade with three maneuver battalions and all necessary enablers, including combat support and supply units, in Lithuania until 2027.
Germany estimates that a total of 4.8 thousand people will come to Lithuania. soldiers and 200 civilians.
There will be two places of service – Rūdninkai in Šalčininkai district and Rukla in Jonava district. The soldiers and their families will live in Vilnius and Kaunas, and logistic points will also be created in other parts of Lithuania.
The deployment of the German brigade in Lithuania started to be discussed after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Germany announced a concrete commitment to this last June. This is aimed at strengthening the security of Lithuania and the entire eastern wing of NATO.
