The distribution of points for the first “Street Race” season shook the streets of Alytus

--

On the first Saturday of May, the first round of the Lithuanian car “Street Race” championship was held in Alytus. The competition named after “Go4Race” was organized by the organizing teams of “Jaunasis lečeršinnikas” and “Marimotors Racing” with the help of the main partners “Perlas Go”. This competition did not leave anyone indifferent on the streets of Alytus – the audience saw several hundred races during the day, after which the winners and prize-winners of the first stage of the season were revealed.

Lots of participants and crowds of spectators

For the “Go4Race” competition, the organizers closed almost the entire center of Alytus, because the slightly longer than one-kilometer track stretched along four streets. There was also no lack of action in the spaces adjacent to these streets, as the “Garage Motor Show” exhibition was held here, where residents and guests of the city could see exclusive cars.

But those who were more interested in running cars than parked cars flocked around the track for the first leg of the Street Race. More than a hundred participants started in it on Saturday, among whom a really fierce battle for positions was brewing. The winners here were those who avoided errors punishable by seconds or crashes. And they also happened. Some were severely punished by the curbs at the edges of the street, others could not withstand the equipment.

Wins were decided by seconds

Finally, after four qualifying runs, the winners and prize-winners in all five classes of the Street Race discipline were determined. It is symbolic, but in the SGC-1 standings, the first three positions among the thirteen applicants were shared by three guys, all of whom are named Lukas. Lukas Jaruševičius, the organizer of this competition, was the fastest in this class. It is only 1.8 seconds in four runs. left runner-up Luke Gordon ahead of him. Lukas Staškūnas was two seconds behind the latter. By the way, the winner of this class later also started in the OC class, but here his Ford suffered a breakdown.

In the SGC-2 class, no one matched Algirdas Grici. He sealed his victory with a three-second lead. Rytis Jankevičius finished the performance in second place, and he stepped onto the third step by just 0.5 seconds from the second place prize winner. Tadas Malinauskas is lagging behind. 19 participants started in this class.

There was no lack of competition in the SGC-3 class, where 29 participants gathered and most of the drivers piloted cars of various BMW models. In this class, Šarūnas Visockas celebrated the victory, surpassing the second-place finisher, Julii Povilauskas, by two seconds. Karolis Daujotas finished a little less than two seconds behind the second place.

In the SGC-4 class, which had 18 participants, Mantas Bytautas shot to the front with the Cupra Formentor from the first runs. And although he himself did not avoid mistakes during the four runs, his opponents did as well. In the end, it turned out that Mantas Bytautas was named the winner of the stage and surpassed his closest competitor in his class, Pavel Vidutos, by four seconds. Vytautas Bogdžiūnas took third place in this class.

The principled battle for positions and the best result boiled over in the OC class, where everyone who wanted to or whose cars exceeded the technical requirements for the SGC classes competed. Mantas Bytautas won another winner’s cup here. His lead over Dinas Pakėnas, who finished second in the class, was just over three seconds. The third position among 34 participants was won by Šarūnas Visockas, who was separated by a second from the second place.

Kęstutis Taškūnas showed one of the best times in one run. He finished his third run in 57.721 seconds, but the course record did not guarantee him a place on the podium. Since the Street Race discipline has four total results, one extremely fast drive is not enough to win the class.

“VTDK Racing” club members triumphed in the team standings with 39 points. The “Automotive.lt” team lost to them by three points. The representatives of “Finišas.lt” finished in third place with 31 points.

Will organize two more races

This race was the first of three that the Young Racer and Marimotors Racing will run together this season. A little later, another stage is planned in Alytus. It will have a two-day format and will offer entertainment such as a spectator slalom or a “Warm-up” session for the participants of future competitions.

The same organizers will organize another race this year – the last stage of the 2024 season in Druskininkai. The latter city is celebrating its 230th birthday this year, so the final race of the season held here in autumn will be the cherry on top of the “Druskininkai Tourism Days” series of events and the “Street Race” calendar.
