“Via Lietuva” signed the contract for the construction of the first stage of the Jonava bypass and the reconstruction of the Jonava-Žasliai-Kalniiniai Mijaugonys road with the joint-stock company “Eurovia Lietuva”, which won the announced public tender. Contract work is planned to be completed within 8 months, the value of the work is 4.8 million. EUR with VAT.

“I am glad that it was possible to find solutions and move from years of talk to real work. A fundamental turning point occurred when phase I of the Jonava bypass was included in the portfolio of projects important for military mobility, financed by the banks’ temporary solidarity contribution. After securing the government’s approval and the necessary funding, the design work was successfully completed, and now the real contracting work begins, the results of which we will be able to see already at the beginning of next year,” says M. Skuodis.

“We hear the public’s expectations regarding the Jonava bypass and we are finally starting real work. This project is important to us for several reasons. After its implementation, the traffic safety in the region will be increased, and the traffic flow capacity in the city of Jonava will be improved. Finally, the Jonava bypass will become a particularly important communication artery for the movement of NATO allies’ military equipment around the nearby Rukla training ground,” says Via Lietuva CEO Marius Švaikauskas.

During the implementation of phase I of the Jonava southeast bypass project, a two-lane road will be installed, and the Jonava–Žasliai–Kalniiniai Mijaugonys road will be reconstructed. In order to ensure traffic capacity, 2 roundabouts will be additionally installed, the design of which took into account the mobility of military equipment and the routes of large-sized transport. During the ongoing works, the pedestrian and bicycle path on the right side will also be reconstructed.

We remind you that currently, according to last October after the agreement entered into force, the design works of phase II of the Jonava bypass are being carried out. After the completion of the design, contracting works are planned, during which it is planned to build a new, almost 7 km section of the main road Kaunas-Zarasai-Daugpilis. It is planned to install 2 new roundabouts, viaducts, a tunnel viaduct under the existing railway, culverts, and an underground pedestrian crossing.

After the completion of the Jonava bypass project, traffic conditions will improve not only for the residents of Jonava, but also for those going to work in Kaunas and the Kaunas district.

The Jonava bypass on the east side will start from the bridge over the Neris, at Skarulii, and will continue south of this road until approximately the village of Switzerland in the Jonava district, where it will rejoin the main road.

Last year, the joint-stock company “Via Lietuva” also carried out active implementation of dual-purpose infrastructure projects. One of the most important is near the Pabradė military training ground in a record short period of 6 months. During the period, a 6 km long road was completely reconstructed. The company paid individual attention to the implementation of this project, and in order to maintain the long-term use of the road, on which heavy military equipment constantly moves, it used an exclusive rolled concrete technology.
