Next to the “Gilijos” primary school belonging to the municipality of Klaipėda (Taikos pr. 68), the final installation works of the new stadium are being carried out – the environment is being managed.
A new sports field has been installed on the school’s territory, which occupies more than one and a half hectares, on the site of the old stadium.
“Not only the students of “Gilijos” primary school, but also the local community will be able to play sports on this sports field. Greater attention to the physical activity of Klaipėda residents is one of our priorities. When encouraging people to exercise, we must create conditions to do it in the fresh air, as close as possible to home – so that other circumstances and additional resources do not hinder the habit of exercising. We would very much like the residents to value, save the city’s property and treat it responsibly both in this stadium and in other public places,” says Klaipėda City Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus.
A drainage system, an artificial grass soccer field with ball traps, and a multifunctional area with elements of light gymnastics were installed in the previously swampy “Gilijos” sports field. The existing basketball and volleyball courts were renovated by installing a waterproof two-layer castable surface. The basketball court is fenced. New height-adjustable volleyball stands have been installed on the volleyball court. There are also running tracks and long jump sectors. Next to the running tracks, a domed gazebo is installed on the base of the cobblestones, which will also be able to perform the function of an outdoor classroom. The sports field is fenced and equipped with lighting. Pedestrian paths are provided for access to the sports grounds.
Video surveillance cameras will also be installed in the stadium.
Stadium contract work costing 520 thousand. euros, were launched in 2023. in August. Funds for the renovation of the stadium of “Gilijos” primary school are allocated from the budget of the city of Klaipėda.
