As reported by the Kaunas Fire Rescue Service, the incident took place on Lietavos Street on Monday. in the apartment building. Around 10 o’clock 04 min. paramedics said they arrived to find a man who was having trouble breathing and coughing. The doctors who stayed in the apartment also felt weak, they also passed out coughing.
Medics said they suspected some kind of chemical had spread and asked firefighters to check the building. At the same time, the doctors said that they did not smell gas.
Before the arrival of the firemen, the paramedics took a 25-year-old woman and a 4-month-old baby from the apartment to the hospital.
A 35-year-old man and two emergency workers who were in the same apartment also felt ill.
When the firefighters arrived, a pungent smell of unknown origin was felt, and the gas emergency was informed about the incident.
From the apartments on the 8th and 9th floors, seven residents who were in the house at the time were asked to go outside.
When the gas emergency workers arrived, they did not detect a gas leak. However, it was found that disinfection was being carried out in one apartment. The Public Health Center, having received information from the company “Dezinfa” about the materials used, provided methodological assistance to the firefighters – to ventilate the premises.
After airing out the premises, residents are allowed to return to their apartments.
The incident is under investigation.
