One of the most important heralds of a real and warm spring in Kaunas is the international sports dance competition “Gintarinė pora” held in the city on the first weekend of May. This year they will be held for the 58th time and although it seems that it would be difficult to come up with something new, the organizers promise that they will surprise both the spectators and the participants.
On the evening of Mother’s Day, there is an impressive spectacle
May 5 holiday in the evening from 7 p.m. “Zalgiris Arena” will host the final competition of standard and Latin American dances, where the best couples of the tournament will perform. Opera soloist Liudas Mikalauskas will also perform. Demonstration numbers will be presented by legendary dancers from Belgium Victor Da Silva and Joanna Leunis, “Sūkurios” dancers – this year’s Lithuanian champions – Einoras Degutis and Ugnė Bliujūtė.
The national hip-hop champion, winner of the TV talent contest Ignas Tamulis and contemporary dance studio “Aušrinė” will perform at the event.
Česlovas Norvaiša, one of the initiators of “Gintarinė poros” adds that this is not all – there are more memorable surprises waiting for you: “The people of Kaunas have always been famous for their hospitality, so we will not lower the bar this year either.” We will welcome all participants and spectators properly.”
Free concert
Erika Stepankevičienė, the director of the Kaunas Cultural Center, which organizes the competition, says that the biggest surprise is the news that the organizers and partners invite to watch this year’s event for free: “We are grateful to the dancers that such an elegant and cozy evening takes place every year precisely on the occasion of Mother’s Day. As every year, we invite mothers to come with the whole family and enjoy themselves.”
She also emphasized that advance booking of free tickets is essential: “We have no doubt that the interest will be huge. We want everyone to be comfortable, so we ask that you reserve your free tickets in advance. The sooner you do it, the better. Without them, spectators will not be allowed into the event.”
The competition is organized together with Kaunas “Sūkurios” sport dance club, world and Lithuanian sport dance federations, Kaunas city municipality.
