The project “Baltic countries’ solutions for managing plastic pollution in the circular economy (BALTIPLAST)”.

The goal of the project is to identify, test and implement measures that would reduce plastic waste in the Baltic Sea, to propose specific solutions to reduce the flow of plastic waste into the Baltic Sea, based on the principles of circular economy.

The main partner of the project is the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany, the consortium partners in Lithuania are the Kaunas University of Technology, the Environmental Management and Technology Center and the Kaunas City Municipality Administration. The consortium consists of 18 partners from Germany, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland.

The project consortium consists of countries with very different levels of development in the field of plastic waste management, so international cooperation ensures the exchange of good practices and promotes the reuse of plastic or the recycling of plastic waste. By involving Kaunas city municipality, business companies, NGOs and private individuals, educational institutions, the goal is to reduce the use of single-use plastic packaging, improve the collection and processing of plastic packaging, and waste management, so that they become part of the circular economy.

The total value of the project is EUR 4,273,595.40, of which EUR 192,906.80 is allocated to the Kaunas City Municipality. (EU funds – 154,325.44 euros, KMSA part – 38,581.36 euros).

The project is financed by EU Interreg Baltic Sea Region program investment funds.
