Bavarian traditions include more than 40 types of mixed drinks and many historical recipes, and the country’s culture is based on a sense of community. Oktoberfest, which has been organized for more than 200 years, was also born from the desire of the royal family to share the wedding celebration with the townspeople. This celebration, which has won the title of the largest fair in the world, is just one of the many opportunities for the people of Bavaria to gather and have fun together. Many customs and holidays flourish in Bavaria, such as May Day or St. Leonhard horse parade, sparkling Christmas fairs, loved by locals and visitors to the city. Various occasions in this country are often associated with traditional farming culture or Christian holidays, which become the highlights of the calendar year, helping to form a unique approach to life.

Although during the Bavarian weekend in Kaunas you won’t be able to feel the romance of being surrounded by mountains and castles typical of the Bavarian region, the event will certainly not lack the Bavarian spirit – the initiators of the festival have been organizing the Lithuanian “Oktoberfest” for the sixth year in a row – a large and attracting a lot of attention. The Bavarian weekend will be dedicated to getting to know the traditions a little more modestly, in the cozy environment of “Wolfs Engelman Gallery”, enjoying food, drinks and music. And the Bavarian atmosphere will be enhanced by the historical exhibition of paintings and traditional Bavarian clothes, which the guests of the event are also invited to wear.

“The characteristics of the Bavarian weekend that will be held in Kaunas on the first weekend of April will be perfectly revealed by the rich menu of traditional food, Bavarian melodies performed by Lithuanian musicians and wrapped drinks served in large glasses. When we signed a cooperation agreement with the brewer last year, allowing us to brew the royal drink of Bavaria, I knew that I could entrust the Bavarian traditions to these brewers. I am very happy to see Lithuanian people enjoying Bavarian culture. I think we have a lot of similarities, which is why Bavarian entertainment is well received in Lithuania,” said His Royal Highness Luitpold von Bayern.

Audronė Saulėnienė, coordinator of the “Volfas Engelman” brewer’s brewer’s competence center, is convinced that Bavarians really know how to have fun, and this can be clearly seen when looking at their traditional food and music.

“The song titles alone speak for themselves – where else but in a fun-loving country would tracks with names like ‘Sauerkraut Polka’ be born.” When you hear this music, your feet move by themselves. And in order to have energy for dancing, you need to eat well. During the Bavarian weekend, we will offer you to try traditional Bavarian meals – pretzels with a hoppy drink and three cheese spread, meat pie, German sausages, pork rind, potato dumplings, stewed red cabbage, veal schnitzels, “Bratwurst” sausages with potato salad and duck legs. There will also be traditional desserts – apples baked in wheat dough with vanilla sauce, strudel with apples. Well, the inseparable highlight of the evening is wrapped drinks in liter glasses. We will even brew two types of new drinks for a special Bavarian weekend. We invite everyone to participate, two fun days await. We advise you to reserve a table in advance – we still have a few free seats”, says A.Saulėnienė about the pleasures that await at the festival.

The Bavarian weekend will take place on April 5-6. In Kaunas, “Volfas Engelman Gallery”, Kaunakiemio st. 2. April 5 the event will start at 18:00 on April 6. – 1 p.m. You can reserve a table by phone +370 616 36 741 or by e-mail. by mail [email protected].
