True, the woman mentions that these forecasts are more experimental, so they should be viewed with caution.

The average April temperature in Lithuania is 7.2 degrees Celsius.

March of this year was the absolute heat record holder. Here, for example, in Druskininkai on March 31. warmed up to +25.5 degrees. The previous record for March 31st was recorded exactly 14 years ago (2010-03-31) in Lazdijai, when it warmed up to +19.8 °C (that is, even 5.7 degrees less than today). At the same time, even 3.1 degrees was improved, which did not last a day on Saturday, recorded in March. the highest air temperature record (+22.4 °C, Druskininkai, 30/03/2024).

Forecasters say that this happened due to the arrival of a warm air mass from North Africa, which also reached Lithuania. And although this is not a very special phenomenon, it is not very typical for the month of March.

V. Mačiulytė comments that such strong warming is the result of climate change. And because of it, various heat records are being achieved more and more often.

“Although such weather is not very exceptional, climate change is increasing the frequency of those various records. And that temperature bar is being pushed up little by little, and in relation to low temperature, it is not happening. We don’t set any records for low temperatures, and usually all kinds of extremes occur in relation to the maximum temperature,” says the climatologist.
