In 2023, the Lithuanian theater market maintained stable demand. The largest Lithuanian ticket distribution network “Bilietai.lt” and their theater ticket distribution platform “Teatrai.lt” revealed that over 1 million people visited these portals last year. visitors, and the most popular performance of the year was “Wonderful Things”.

According to “Biletai.lt” data, in 2023 the absolute majority of tickets to the performances were purchased in Vilnius (75%), which, compared to 2022, shows 12%. growth, but it is not surprising, because the capital hosts the most events in the country. 12 percent was purchased in Kaunas. of tickets, in Klaipėda – 7 percent, and all other cities had just 6 percent. theater markets.

When comparing different age groups of theater visitors, the largest share of buyers is made up of people aged 45-54, but not far behind are 55-64. and 35-44 years old people of age groups. The least active theater visitors are 18-24 years old. age, but this trend is observed not every year.

“Bilietai.lt” reveals that the majority of people interested in theater look for information about plays and performances in the evenings between 8 and 10 p.m., and the majority (78%) do so using a smartphone. A fifth of Lithuanians look for information about the theater with the help of a computer and only 1 percent. he does that with a tablet computer.

“The theater events market continues to remain very strong and stable – every second adult inhabitant of the country is interested in theatre. In the presence of strong demand, we accordingly notice a growing supply of local performances,” says Simonas Sudaras, Commercial Director of “Bilietai.lt”.

The top three most popular theater productions of last year were “Wonderful Things” (dir. K. Glušaev), “Roulette” (dir. J. Strømgren) and “Tartiuf” (dir. O. Koršunovas), and the theater comedy that received the most attention was “Maybe we don’t do tragedy” (dir. S. Aškelavičius).

In the category of dance performances, the performance “Youth” (dir. A. Cholina) took the first place, among the performances for children, “Mushroom War” (dir. A. Mikutis) was the most popular, and in the category of other theatrical performances, as in 2022, the opera performance was the leader “Sun and sea” (R. Barzdziukaitė, V. Grainytė, L Lapelytė).

It is also worth highlighting the stand-up comedy genre, which is becoming more and more popular in Lithuania every year, in which the performances of the “Humoro klubus” continue to be the best – they made up the top three most popular.
