“During these two decades of success, we have changed beyond recognition, we have matured as a free and responsible state, a full-fledged and dignified member of the Western democratic world, a member of the club of the lucky and successful,” her congratulation stated.

According to the Head of the Government, although the country is experiencing crises and challenges, it is strong and capable of overcoming them.

“The principles of democracy, human rights and the rule of law that unite the European Union allow us to ensure security and well-being, to spread the talents of our people, for everyone to freely choose their own future and to create an innovative and prosperous Europe together,” said I. Šimonytė in her greeting.

She emphasized that today Lithuania’s voice is important and heard.

“Having a strong value backbone and believing in freedom and democracy, we remind Europe and the entire democratic world not only with words, but also with our example: we will be strong only if we are united and defend our values,” said the Prime Minister.

She also called on the EU not to miss the historic chance to become even stronger by accepting Ukraine, Moldova and other states that defend common values ​​into the Community.

Lithuania became a member of the EU on May 1, 2004, along with nine other Central and Eastern European countries.
