“It is known that the earthquake, if there was one, is local because its signs can only be observed at one monitoring station. Therefore, the probable magnitude of the seismic event is likely to be less than 3 points, which means that the damage caused by the earthquake to buildings or infrastructure would not be noticeable.

Ground movements observed in Latvia are usually small-scale, related to human activities, such as military exercises.

The last earthquake in the Baltic region was recorded in 2022, with a magnitude of 2.3, in the northern part of Estonia. Natural earthquakes in the region rarely exceed magnitude 3,” the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology reported.

Latvian meteorologist Tomas Bricis also reported the earthquake on the X social network.

“I received messages from Liepoja and Durbė that around 11 a.m. there was something like a small earthquake. If anyone has any additional evidence, it would be helpful if you could report it!” he writes.

“Yes, it was. All the windows of the house were shaking,” one resident of Liepaja wrote in response to T. Brico’s message.

Rihards Lesins confirms the same, stating that “around that time the house shook and probably again after a while.”

“I also felt it in Liepaja. But I thought that maybe there were some vibrations from the nearby repair works,” wrote Laura Jeruma.

“I don’t know how it is with brick buildings, but it was felt very strongly in our industrial building (in Liepaja). It wasn’t nice,” wrote another netizen.
