15 minutes after contacting the manager of the bookstore Tomas Lučiūnas, he said that the bookstore is closing for several reasons.

“I’ve run out of personal time a little bit and can’t keep the idea of this place going.” We thought of moving somewhere else, because the lease contract has expired, which we will not renew, – said T. Lučiūnas. – You can speculate about many reasons, but it is not easy to maintain a bookstore, so you want to rest.”

However, the online bookstore will remain. T. Lučiūnas closes the doors only to the physical store, but book lovers will be able to purchase them virtually.

“The costs of online shopping are somewhat lower, we will be able to work remotely and manage the process more easily. You won’t let the books go so easily, unless you throw them in the waste paper, but somehow you don’t want to”, commented T. Lučiūnas.

And what awaits in the future? Perhaps when the financial situation improves, a new bookstore will open? “It’s hard to say whether the problem was finances – we kept the bookstore, but there are still plans for a new, slightly different place. In our current concept, we are simply a traditional bookstore, but that is not enough. Perhaps we will organize a cultural center in another space, one of the parts of which will be books,” said the owner of the “Juodas šuo” bookstore.

T. Lučiūnas 15 minutes assured that he will definitely not give up his bookshop activities: “This is not the end of my activity, but the end of the physical bookstore on Palanga Street.”
