Politicians of the Vilnius Municipality intend to start discussions on commemorating the memory of volunteer soldier Tad Tumas and traveler Mantas Kvedaravius, who died in Ukraine, in the capital.

On Tuesday, the capital city council will consider this proposed resolution.

The Council believes that the Lithuanian victims of the war must be properly honored and remembered in Vilnius, the document states.

It mentions that T. Tumo’s approach to Bakhmut encourages us to realize that Ukraine is fighting not only for its freedoms and values, but also for the freedoms and values of the entire Western world, and M. Kvedaravius’ films Mariupol and Mariupol 2 testify to both Ukrainian courage and Russian armed forces iaurum and crimes against humanity and war crimes.

The authors of the resolution appeal to and encourage the historical memory commission of the Vilnius city municipality, in cooperation with the municipal administration, to find possible ways and forms to commemorate the Lithuanians killed in the war of aggression of Russia near Ukraine.

After the approval of the resolution, it was decided to formulate a Historical Memory Commission for the commemoration of Lithuanians in Ukraine, where it will be submitted to the city council for adoption.

The author of the initiative is Aurimas Navys, a representative of the Tvyns sjungos-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) faction.

His faction colleague, Chairman of the Historical Memory Commission, Kamil erait-Gogelien BNS claims that the faction supports A. Navios idj.

The resolution is a political statement that we have to ask, that before the resolution, the Historical Memory Commission will have to consider those commemoration options, said K. Erait-Gogelien.

According to her, although there is a rule in the capital that the memory of a monk can be commemorated only ten years after his death, an exception can be made to this requirement.

What is needed in the resolution is that the commission is encouraged to take action, according to the chairman of the commission.

According to K. eraits-Gogeliens, there is no time limit for the family, so it can be said about the memory of a person even if one day has passed after his death.

Tadas Tumas, nicknamed Milinas, was the first Lithuanian to lose his life in the war in Ukraine. He died on February 23. As announced, T. Tumas was driving the front lines together with a Ukrainian near Bakhmut, when the car was hit by a Russian drone. T. Tumas was buried in Antakalnis cemetery in the middle of March.

Mantas Kvedaraviius, a 45-year-old film traveler, was murdered in the spring of 2022 in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, where he arrived while surrounded. In 2015, the traveler filmed the documentary Mariupol in the city, and in addition recorded the remaining residents and their stories in the besieged and war-ravaged city.
