Navalny, one of Putin’s fiercest critics, died in an Arctic prison camp in February at the age of 47.

His allies, including his wife, accused the Russian leader of killing him. The Kremlin has always denied this accusation.

However, US intelligence agencies do not believe that V. Putin ordered the death of an opposition member. This comes after a recent assessment based on a range of information, including some classified intelligence and analysis of publicly available facts.

The assessment also took into account the timing of the death and how it overshadowed Putin’s re-election as president in March, the WSJ said, citing its sources.

The newspaper cited sources who said the finding was “widely recognized in the intelligence community and supported by several agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the State Department’s Intelligence Unit.”

Reacting to the report, Leonidas Volkov, an oppositionist and former associate of Navalny, called the findings naive and ridiculous, the WSJ reported.
