The Russian Federal Customs Service (FTS) on Thursday accused the Lithuanian authorities of blocking the entry of cargo trucks to Lithuania from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

“From March 20 11 p.m. “Lithuania did not allow a single truck from Russia without any explanation,” says the FTS report, which states that a queue of 140 trucks has formed on the Kaliningrad side due to traffic jams.

The Russian exclave is home to more than 1 million people and borders Lithuania and Poland along the Baltic Sea.

The spokesman of the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, claimed that the disruption was caused by a major outage that disabled Lithuanian government websites, including the Border Guard Service.

An employee of the Lithuanian border service told The Moscow Times by phone that the agency has “no information” about traffic jams or accumulation of cargo vehicles on the Russian-Lithuanian border.

Russia’s FTS later reported that Lithuania had opened its border crossing points by Thursday afternoon.

Shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Lithuania imposed severe restrictions on goods moving through its territory, mostly by rail.
