The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in the EU has expressed its displeasure that authorities authorized by the European Commission (EC) conducted an unannounced inspection of the offices of a Chinese security equipment supplier in the Netherlands and Poland.

Without disclosing the identity of the company, the chamber said that law enforcement agencies “authorized by the European Commission” raided both countries early on Tuesday morning.

According to the organization, during the inspections, the company’s IT equipment and employees’ mobile phones were confiscated, office documents were checked, and access to important data was demanded.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce says it is “deeply shocked and displeased by Tuesday’s inspection”.

In a statement quoted by the Financial Times, the EC said it had “indications that the company under investigation may have received foreign subsidies which may have distorted the domestic market”.

VŽ wrote that the European Commission has started investigations into subsidies for Chinese manufacturers of solar modules, electric cars, and wind power plants.

In February, the EC launched an investigation into a subsidiary of Chinese railway giant CRRC. But that investigation was suspended in April after a CRRC subsidiary pulled out of a tender to buy Bulgaria’s electric trains this month.

The investigations are carried out in accordance with the new EU rules that entered into force last July, the purpose of which is to prevent the harmful effects of foreign subsidies in the Community.
