The electricity bill accounts for perhaps the largest portion of every household’s utility costs. Although we know the basic rules of saving electricity, for example, turning off what is not in use, but this does not lead to a fundamental change in electricity consumption. According to experts, you can save up to 70 percent by using the smart energy-saving functions of household appliances. electricity costs. How to do it – advises Samsung Electronics Baltics product trainer Tomas Alešiūnas.

Who “screws” the most electricity at home?

In order to reduce the amount of electricity consumed, it would first be useful to know which devices have the greatest impact on the final electricity bill. According to the expert, the first place among household appliances that consume the most electricity is occupied by water-powered devices.

“This is a washing machine, a washer-dryer or a dishwasher. The power required to heat water increases energy consumption, making these household appliances particularly energy intensive. On average, an A-class washing machine and dishwasher consumes about 300 kWh of electricity per year – that is, it accounts for more or less 60 euros of electricity costs per year,” shares T. Alešiūnas.

Appliances that consume less energy are refrigerators and freezers. Because of their purpose, these devices must be turned on all the time, so they constantly use energy to maintain the correct temperature. An average-sized Class A refrigerator consumes about 250 kWh per year, and lower than Class A refrigerators consume an average of 500 kWh of energy per year.

In addition, they are among the longest-running devices in the home. A typical fridge-freezer has a lifespan of about 17 years. Therefore, according to T. Alešiūnas, investing in an energy-saving refrigerator is a useful long-term investment.

The third position among home devices that consume the most electricity is occupied by electronic devices – from TVs and computers, to phones and game consoles. And lighting, according to the expert, ranks only in fourth place in terms of electricity consumption, so spending the evenings by candlelight probably won’t help save money.

Energy-saving devices

One of the most popular ways to help save electricity is investing in energy-saving devices.

According to the expert, when looking for a new TV, washing machine or refrigerator, you should choose those devices that are marked as meeting energy efficiency standards. This means that they use significantly less energy than other devices in similar categories.

In addition, with the development of artificial intelligence technologies, new models with even more efficient energy-saving solutions appear.

“All of Samsung’s latest products feature AI Energy Mode, powered by artificial intelligence. Machine learning, which is characteristic of AI algorithms, brings many benefits to the areas of home and everyday life, as it is able to understand and remember consumer habits and intelligently apply energy saving,” says Samsung Electronics Baltics product trainer Tomas Alešiūnas.

For example, in new technology OLED TVs that implement this mode, AI helps save electricity by automatically detecting and analyzing the ambient light level and selecting the screen brightness accordingly.

Artificial intelligence systems are also useful in laundry – AI can help weigh the loads of clothes in the washing machine and select the most suitable washing mode.

As for refrigerators, with the help of the energy saving mode, AI is able to determine the defrost cycles of the refrigerator.

“For example, when the refrigerator door is opened, the artificial intelligence notices the change and automatically adjusts the temperature, recognizes the user’s habits and provides usage reports together with the average amounts of electricity consumption, taking into account the electricity supplier’s plan and conditions,” says T. Alešiūnas.

All smart home appliances can be monitored in a smartphone app, which not only allows you to comfortably control all home devices, but also monitor and plan the amount of electricity consumed or the amount of energy saved.
