McLaren’s Lando Norris triumphed at the Miami GP and took the first victory of his career. Nevertheless, McLaren also received criticism in Miami. Many fans were outraged that this team allowed former president Donald Trump, who is running for office again this year, to visit their garage in the first round of the season in the USA.
However, McLaren does not see any problem in this and is proud that the former US president chose their garage.
McLaren is a non-political organization, but we recognize and respect the status of the President of the United States. So when we got a request to visit our garage on race day, we agreed. We were honored that our team was chosen for this visit. This gave us the opportunity to show the world-class engineering that we implement in motorsport”, commented the press representative of McLaren.
L. Norris, who won the race, was also happy with D. Trump’s visit: “I didn’t see him in the garage because I was busy preparing for the race. But after the race he came to congratulate me. So, I am honored that a person of this stature found the time to approach me and congratulate me on what I have done. He said he is my lucky charm, but I don’t know if he will come to more races now. There were a lot of special people here this weekend, and Donald is one of them. He is a man to be respected in many ways.”
