The announcement comes as Huawei ramps up its recovery efforts after a year in which the company appeared to defy US sanctions by introducing a high-end smartphone.

Shenzhen-based Huawei has recently found itself at the center of an intense confrontation between China and the United States. Washington has warned that the Chinese government could use the company’s equipment for espionage purposes. Huawei denies this.

Since 2019, the sanctions have cut off Huawei’s access to US-made components and technology, forcing the company to diversify its growth strategy.

Huawei said it received $87 billion last year. yuan (11.1 billion euros) profit, which is more than double the amount compared to 35.6 billion. yuan profit obtained in 2022, but did not exceed the record 113.7 billion achieved in 2021. yuan profit.

Income also increased – the increase was equal to 9.6 percent.

The gains came after a year in which Huawei unveiled the Mate 60 Pro smartphone, which caused a stir in Washington. The device, which features an advanced domestically-made chip, has sparked debate over whether US attempts to curb China’s access to semiconductor technology are effective.

Huawei remains the world’s leading manufacturer of 5G network equipment, participating in infrastructure projects in many countries.

The United States has tried to persuade its allies not to give Huawei access to their 5G networks, arguing that Beijing could use the group’s products to monitor communications and data traffic.

Last June, the European Commission (EC) decided that Chinese telecommunications equipment suppliers, including Huawei, pose a security threat to the European Union (EU). And last month, Huawei’s offices in France were raided on suspicion of “misbehaviour”.

In response to the U.S.-imposed restrictions, Beijing has repeatedly criticized what it says is Washington’s “abuse of the concept of national security to constrain Chinese companies” as well as “discriminatory and unfair practices.”
