“That’s when the idea arose to go somewhere south to enjoy the sunny weather. We started looking where we could go for a week inexpensively. First we looked for flights and rentals in Madeira. There weren’t many cheaper offers, so we started looking at countries with a similar climate like Madeira. While searching, we discovered the island of Cyprus. After seeing that accommodation is not so expensive and flight ticket prices are significantly lower than in Madeira, we decided to go to Cyprus,” he says.

The island was explored by four, three of whom had taken the workhouse.

“Our workplace gives you the opportunity to “take a vacation” for two weeks a year. We spent a week on this island – it was a great opportunity to combine work with a change of environment and enjoy a different climate,” he says.

According to him, this choice paid off – the entire trip cost about 600 euros. The most expensive were flight tickets, accommodation rental and food, because most of the time it was eaten in restaurants. And to rent a car for a week together with fuel cost about 250 euros.

True, according to the interviewee, it was possible to save even more by choosing cheaper accommodation, because for this trip, accommodation in a Mediterranean village-type villa apartment was chosen.

What is worth seeing

A.Palubinskas especially recommends visiting the city of Paphos on the island of Cyprus.

“In Paphos, which is even included in the UNESCO heritage, you can see many impressive places of historical significance, natural beauty and recreation. Among the historical objects, it is worth seeing the Paphos Archaeological Park and the Tombs of the Kings, which are located in one place. In the archaeological park you can explore the remains of the Roman city, villas decorated with mosaics, the amphitheater and the agora (marketplace), and in the Tombs of the Kings you can see 7 unearthed underground tombs, which have been here since the 4th century. Of the natural objects, it is worth seeing Akam located on the peninsula Avak a pass that stretches for about 2.5 kilometers. The footpath starts with a well-maintained park where you can see various plants and bushes growing, for your convenience they are marked with explanatory posts. Later, going deeper into the gorge, a stream begins and a rocky path runs along it. You will have to test your strength while walking on that path – you will have to climb over rocks of various sizes,” he says.

In addition, he recommends renting buggy-type motorcycles. buggy) and take them for a ride on various routes, where it is usually difficult to pass by car.

“If you are already going to Paphos, it is worth visiting the city of Limassol, which is only 50 kilometers away. It would definitely be worth a stroll through the old town, which has a medieval castle. If you get bored of the city center, then you can take a walk along the long promenade, which is full of various types of restaurants – for at least half a day, and most likely for a longer time, you will definitely find something to do”, says A.Palubinskas.

Various cuisine

Cypriot cuisine, according to the traveler, is very similar to Greek cuisine. He singles out a few main dishes that are a must-try:

  • Moussaka (moussaka) is a Greek dish inseparable from Cyprus. For those who like eggplant, lots of cheese and minced meat, the taste should really please. It is usually served in a clay pot.
  • Souvlaki – pork (or other meat) kebab – one of the most popular “fast food” options in Cyprus. Simple, hearty and sure to please meat lovers.
  • Meze – this dish is usually described as “lots of small appetizer plates”. You have to choose what you would like – fish or meat meze, and then they bring all kinds of dishes according to this choice.

“Another dish that really left an impression was a salad of vegetables, fruit and blue cheese, seasoned with walnuts. The salad itself was served in a pita baked in honey, in the shape of a bowl.

In general, Cypriot cuisine is characterized by its fresh, seasonal ingredients. Citrus fruits are used in many dishes, which gives a sense of freshness. Of course, restaurants abound with fish dishes. The most popular choice is sea bream. It is served differently in every restaurant: in some cases it is with vegetables, in others it is served with potatoes”, says the IT specialist.

Therefore, it is not surprising that he is planning to go to this region again for a work stoppage – only this time in the summer.

“At noon, when it’s the hottest, you can work from home, and in the evening, when the sun hasn’t set yet, there are more opportunities to do something outside.” This time, when we were in Cyprus, that was the most lacking, because after finishing work the sun had already set, so we had to have a plan in advance so that we could see something in time – but this is really important when traveling with a regular rhythm, not only during working days”, – trips the idea is shared by the interlocutor.
