The pace of technological development will further accelerate, largely due to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). In the coming years, the way people interact with digital tools will be different from what we are used to seeing. Artificial intelligence has great potential in many areas, which will provide a competitive advantage in the business environment. However, in order to ensure that AI solutions are implemented in a thoughtful and meaningful way, both ethical considerations and risk assessments must be considered.

Instead of searching for information on Internet search engines every day, people will increasingly use artificial intelligence tools that provide the opportunity to receive much more accurate information through a conversation – specific answers and recommendations that meet their needs. Companies will more actively deploy AI solutions that not only collaborate with other AI solutions, but also make decisions for humans with appropriate oversight. As technological capabilities advance, society will experience a transformation of the physical and digital environment that will also provide new opportunities. Technology’s interaction with human bodies will expand, leading to a deeper understanding of people and their desires, according to the latest Accenture Technology Vision 2024 study from information technology (IT) company Accenture.

The study explores four recent technology trends that focus more on how technology and people interact to make technology more intuitive in the future and help people improve their quality of life, productivity and creativity.

“The rise of artificial intelligence is taking development to a new level. In the coming years, the growth of artificial intelligence will affect the business environment and society as a whole on a scale that we have not yet experienced. Walls will be broken down, opening up unprecedented opportunities. If we compare the previous technological progress of the last decades with small waves, now we are facing a tsunami, so the companies of the Baltic countries must prepare for these changes.

It is also critical that AI solutions are applied responsibly and thoughtfully, so that these technologies are not widely used until industry regulation and usage guidelines are in place. There must be discussions about security, ethics and other issues, because we are currently creating the world in which we will live in the future”, says Ivo Almanis, head of Accenture in Latvia.

Artificial intelligence is changing the experience of finding information

Artificial intelligence is changing the internet experience. Nowadays, people look for information in a different way. A person, using ChatGTP and similar means, not only finds information faster, but also receives it much more precisely in a conversational format – specific answers and recommendations that meet his needs. It gives companies new ways to develop brands, including digital marketing and advertising, while customers can reveal their preferences to companies and personalize their shopping experience in conversation.

In the future, it is expected that people will increasingly ask for recommendations from artificial intelligence bots before purchasing a new product. In the coming years, the way people interact with the Internet will be different from what we are used to seeing. Companies need to think of ways to improve the customer experience so that the human interaction with each app or digital platform feels like an interaction with an AI chatbot, and also reflects the brand values.

Great opportunities for effective communication lie in companies as well. Instead of asking a manager or searching for information in documents, the employee will be able to ask specific questions to the AI tool. Of course, development is unthinkable without data security, and quality raw data plays an important role here. AI chatbots should be constantly maintained and tested by humans. The received feedback should be collected and should also not be forgotten about the issues of employee training, ethics, intellectual property protection and new standards necessary for the industry.

Artificial intelligence interaction and decision making

Artificial intelligence tools can be entrusted not only with the performance of individual tasks, but also with decision-making, with appropriate supervision and mutual cooperation with other AI tools. It may sound futuristic, but already more and more business processes are incorporating artificial intelligence tools, which include not only production or internal document circulation, but also marketing, sales and customer relationship management. It is artificial intelligence and automated systems that can make decisions and take appropriate actions on behalf of humans.

The next decade will see a much greater interoperability of AI solutions, which will encourage companies to develop appropriate strategies that include the talent pool. Feedback will help improve the performance of AI tools. The US-based Allen Institute conducted an experiment in which a buyer’s chatbot interacted with a salesperson’s chatbot, and an AI tool evaluated the conversation and made recommendations to improve the chatbot’s ability to accurately communicate sales terms.

The process will always depend on people, but AI tools will act as colleagues. For example, in medicine, AI will help diagnose diseases, but they won’t report them to the patient themselves. AI can help a manager write an inspirational speech, but it won’t deliver it.

Technological development will also affect the labor market. Changes will be noticeable in the duties, roles and functions of employees, so it will be necessary to pay special attention to improving the qualifications of employees. Also, greater attention should be paid to security, as it will be necessary to ensure the transparency of processes and to monitor how and why AI made the relevant decision.

Convergence of physical and digital environments

As the capabilities of innovation and technology grow, we will experience a complete fusion of the physical and digital environments. A meta-universe that connects the virtual world with the real world, which enables people to communicate virtually, will define how we use the Internet in the future.

For example, Fiat has created a metauniverse store where a person who wants to buy a new car can choose its type, color, interior, equipment and other functions. The buyer can take a test drive in a virtual environment to see his options more closely and ask questions to the expert who is driving with him.

On the other hand, the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 is working on a standard that allows users of metaverse platforms to migrate from one platform to another. Other technologies and spatial computing are also developing. In the future, more attention will be paid to digital identity and Web3.

Artificial intelligence accelerates the creation of digital 3D content. Neuralangelo, a tool developed by Nvidia, can transform 2D video clips into 3D digital objects or structures that can be imported into virtual and augmented reality spaces, digital twins or video games.

Today’s technology allows engineers to enhance the user experience in digital environments by incorporating human senses such as touch, smell and taste. Spatial intelligence is driving a reimagining of how our choices shape the digital experience, while at the same time companies are rethinking their strategies to create new ways to connect and interact with customers, partners and employees.

The interface of technology with human bodies

Today, technology helps us understand people and their desires better and more deeply. Some people use wearable devices every day that read and monitor human health parameters, such as heart rate and its changes. Smart glasses not only provide people with a virtual or augmented reality experience, but also provide additional information from the Internet.

Neurotechnologies are being developed that can improve the quality of life for many people, including those who have been bedridden by illness or serious injury. Neurotechnology is beginning to communicate with the human mind. They can help people with verbal disorders express their thoughts by translating their attempts to speak into text or voice. There are also technologies that track human body movements such as eye gaze, hand gestures, posture, etc.

The current advancements in the human interface with technology, from tracking eye gaze to reading brain sensors and muscle signals, are pushing the boundaries between the interaction of technology and human bodies to a new level. It is true that issues related to security and abuse of technology must be addressed. Biometric privacy standards must be updated.

Neuroethics will need to define safeguards, including how to properly interact with the human brain and other biometric data that can be used to read people’s intentions and states. There are still many unknowns and questions that need to be resolved. Although some people believe that neurotechnology will mainly be used in medicine, the scope of application will be much wider.
