The drivers in Panevėžys are the most late, the most dutiful – in Utena

in 2023 16.5 percent of drivers in Lithuania were delayed for a technical inspection by up to a month, and 9.4 percent. – over a month.

The largest number of drivers who were late for the technical inspection were recorded in Panevėžys – 29.8 percent, and in Vilnius – 29.1 percent. and Telšiai – 27.2 percent. The most responsible drivers are in Utena. However, even here, almost a quarter of them arrived at the technical inspection stations with an invalid technical inspection certificate. in 2022 the number of late arrivals for technical inspection was similar.

“The fact that more than a quarter of drivers do not perform a technical inspection on time shows that the problem is long-standing and people need a solution – the ability to conveniently receive reminders. In the market, such services are already making their way little by little and more and more car drivers are using them”, says Gabija Gertienė, business operations director of carOne, a new app for all drivers’ needs.

Risk getting fined

Drivers who do not rush to carry out a technical inspection of their car or forget about its expiration date risk receiving considerable fines. More than 200 stationary infringement control systems are currently installed on Lithuanian roads. They read about 1 million per day. license plates of vehicles and automatically records not only the speed limit, but also cars that do not have mandatory civil liability insurance or a valid technical inspection.

A fine of 30-40 euros is automatically “issued” for driving without a technical inspection. If such a car is transferred to another person to drive, this action entails a fine of 60 to 120 euros. Since the notification of the imposed fine does not reach the car owner on the same day, it is possible to accumulate a very large collection of fines in this way.

“If the validity of the technical inspection has expired or has been revoked, you can avoid inconvenience by ordering a one-day permit to go to the TA station and perform the technical inspection. As many as 390,000 people took advantage of this opportunity last year. together“, says Renaldas Gabartas, the press representative of the Association of Lithuanian Technical Inspection Companies “Transeksta”.

In the event of a traffic accident, insurance companies may refuse to pay for damages if it is determined that the accident was caused by the improper condition of the vehicle.

You can avoid delays by ordering a reminder

In order to avoid fines and traffic safety risks, drivers can order reminders about the upcoming technical inspection.

Continuous automatic reminders about the validity of a car’s MOT are easily available with carOne, an app recently launched by carVertical. The car owner only needs to confirm his identity in the app and the cars he owns and their MOT will be automatically added to the account.

In the mentioned application, drivers will find many other useful functions: the possibility to take out compulsory civil liability insurance, receive reminders about the expiry of the driver’s license or insurance policy, park the car in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda, charge the electric car, call for roadside assistance, sell your vehicle or find the nearest car service.

“Since a large number of drivers miss the expiration of their technical inspection, driver’s license or insurance, we aimed to create a tool that would allow us to avoid these inconveniences. Modern drivers value the possibility of having all the car’s information in one convenient app,” says G. Gertienė.
