The volume of retail trade in Germany decreased by 1.9% in February compared to the previous month, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Thursday.

The volume of sales of food products alone decreased by 1.7%, non-food products by 1%.

The decline in trade was recorded for the fourth month in a row and was the largest since 2022. October.

Meanwhile, analysts interviewed by “Trading Economics” did not expect a recession – the average of their forecasts predicted an average growth of 0.3%.

During the year (last month compared to last February), retail sales in Germany declined by 2.7%.
