Maintaining this leadership, when the big car giants join the sprint towards electrification, has become unbearably difficult, the “Piko minutės” program of “Zinių radio” tells.

The new generation crossover Nissan Ariya is far from as popular as expected. For example, only 13,000 of them were sold on the American market in the last year.

Another Japanese manufacturer is doing even worse with electrification – Honda’s little Honda e was accepted by the media as a super hit, but suffered a complete fiasco in the market and was discontinued just a couple of years later.

Honda’s project to create an electric car together with General Motors is also stalling and so far it has not been possible to organize production.

Only in China, Honda electric cars are sold enough, but they are intended for the local team and are not exported to other countries.

Now it has been announced that Honda and Nissan will join forces and try to develop electric cars together. Both companies will create a common platform for the production of electric cars.

It was agreed to share development costs – the companies will separately develop certain components for electric cars and use them in joint production. This is expected to compete with the leaders in the production of electric cars. The main competitors are Tesla and Chinese manufacturers.

True, it should be noted that for now it is only a protocol of intent. Concrete actions, and even more so the first cars, are still a long way off.
