US presidential candidates traditionally hold debates to help voters form an opinion about the candidates’ image and demeanor, as well as their political abilities.
“I will be happy to participate in a debate with him,” Mr. Biden told American host Howard Stern.
“I’m ready for it. I just don’t know when it will happen,” he said.
“Okay, let’s get this together!” Trump campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita wrote on the X social network in response to Biden’s comments.
Presumptive Republican nominee Trump has refused to participate in any 2024 debates with his primary opponents.
But he has expressed his desire to meet the man who beat him in 2020, saying on social media earlier this year that he was open to a presidential debate with Mr. Biden “ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYWHERE.”
Biden, who has called Trump a threat to democracy, told reporters last month that any deal for a debate with the real estate mogul “depends on his behavior.”
The non-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has already agreed on three dates and locations at US universities where D. Trump and J. Biden will be able to meet face to face in September and October 2024.
However, D.Trump accused the Commission on Presidential Debates of being biased towards Democrat J.Biden when it announced that the candidates would debate from a distance in 2020, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the time, Mr. Biden said he would not participate in another presidential debate with rival Mr. Trump while the Republican is still ill.
The debate could be a great opportunity for the 81-year-old J.Biden to demonstrate his superiority over the 77-year-old D.Trump and thus get rid of the “Sleepy Joe” label attached to him.
