Russia is rushing to capture Chasiv Yar – US experts say what will happen if it succeeds

Analysts of the US Institute of Military Studies (ISW) announce this in their latest report.

They note that a Russian attack west of Avdiyivka could give the Russians a tactical advantage. And Russia’s offensive operation aimed at capturing Chasiv Yar gives Russian forces immediate prospects for a significant operational advance.

Russian forces in the vicinity of Avdiyivka remain about 30 km from their operational objective in Pokrovsk and about 17 km from the relatively large villages east of Pokrovsk.

True, even if Russia’s tactical success forces Ukrainian forces to withdraw to positions further west, current Russian gains northwest of Avdiyivka are unlikely to be operationally significant in the near future, ISW analysts write.

Russia puts pressure on Chasiv Yar

“Russia’s pressure on Chasiv Yar is high. Russian forces, currently on the eastern outskirts of Chasiv Yar, have intensified their efforts to capture the city since March,” the ISW report said.

According to analysts, it is likely that Russian forces are trying to capture as much territory as possible before the arrival of US aid. This weaponry will significantly improve Ukraine’s defensive capabilities in the coming weeks, and Russian military commanders may intensify offensive operations northwest of Avdiyivka, as the area offers more opportunities for quick tactical gains despite its relative operational insignificance.
