K. Karinis stated this on Wednesday in Brussels before the start of the meeting of foreign ministers of NATO countries, reports the correspondent of “Ukrinform”.

“I think this is a very good proposal from the Secretary-General,” he said.

“We need to think about how to combine our common resources so that we can provide aid to Ukraine more efficiently,” the minister added.

K. Karinis also supports the idea that each country must allocate a certain share of GDP to Ukraine.

“For example, this year my government allocated 0.25 percent to support Ukraine. GDP. We plan to continue this practice in the future. There are different ways to do this, but if we all give 0.25% to support Ukraine with its GDP, the financial problems will be solved”, said the head of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to him, NATO must also have a long-term deterrence strategy for Russia, because even after the end of the war, Russia will pose a threat to European security.

“We have to take into account that Putin’s Russia depends not only on Putin, it’s the whole society, it’s a way of thinking, it’s an imperialist attitude. Therefore, NATO must be strong. We have to invest in our defense, we all have to spend at least 2% on it. GDP”, emphasized K. Karinis.
