Ecclestone: Hamilton moves to Ferrari to satisfy self-love

--

In 2025, Lewis Hamilton will continue his career in the Ferrari team. Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone said he found the seven-time world champion’s decision strange.

“Lewis has made a strange transition,” Ecclestone told Racingnews365. – Toto Wolff trusted him very much and the two were close for selfish reasons. I don’t think there’s ever been a relationship between the two of them to fully trust each other. Obviously, this was not the case and that is exactly why Hamilton suddenly decided to leave.

This decision was a very big surprise to me, because I don’t understand why he announced this a year ago? Why didn’t Lewis wait and make the announcement in the second half of the season?

Ferrari think they made a smart and profitable deal by bringing in Hamilton, but I think Lewis resorted to this move to satisfy his own selfishness.

Frederic Vasseur has known Lewis since the Brit started his F1 career. For John Elkann, the opportunity to get one of the best drivers in Formula 1 (and Lewis is considered by many to be the best) to Ferrari is also a desire to satisfy self-love. This happens sometimes – many factors simply pile up.”

Ecclestone added that he would not invite Hamilton to his team: “There would be a lot of unnecessary difficulties. Lewis leads Mercedes in some sense. Toto allowed him to do this so that Lewis would be happy and not leave. But I would never allow athletes in my team to do anything like that.”
