Taylen Brooks, 21, was hiking with his younger brother Wyatt in a remote area of ​​Northern California. The brothers were searching for deer antlers in the El Doreido area when they were attacked by the wild beast, The Mirror reported.

Wyatt managed to escape with serious wounds to his face and neck, unfortunately Taylen did not survive.

The brothers’ family said after the heartbreaking tragedy: “We are all devastated by the tragic loss of Taylen, but we are grateful that Wyatt is still with us and fully understand that things could have ended much worse.”

After surviving the attack, Wyatt called the police and reported his brother’s fatal injuries. He said he spotted the cougar moments before it attacked them.

In a terrifying attack, the cougar grabbed the face of one of the brothers with its jaws and pinned him to the ground. Taylen began pounding the cougar as Wyatt struggled to free himself from her grip, eventually moving until he was on top of her.

The animal began clawing at Wyatt’s torso, causing the young man to release its grip before the cougar broke free and turned its deadly focus on Taylen, snapping its jaws around his neck and knocking him to the ground.

Wyatt, already badly injured in the face, tried to punch the animal to free his older brother, but the animal continued to cling to Taylen’s neck.

After returning to the parked car to call 911, Wyatt drove to where he had left his brother, but did not find him until police later searched the area and found the cougar kneeling next to Taylen’s dead body. After the shot, the cougar ran away, leaving the officers with a clear path.

The brothers’ family said the boys loved outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing, which they did almost every day.

“Taylen worked with his father painting houses and cutting firewood. He loved to fish and was a talented guitarist. He was a very kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew him,” the brothers’ family said.
