March 29 Polish and other allied planes were scrambled in response to reports of a massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine, the Polish Armed Forces’ operational command said.
Ukraine’s air force warned that Russia had fired several waves of missiles overnight and that an air alert had been declared across the country.
At the time of publication, explosions were reported in several cities, including Dnipro and Ivano-Frankivsk.
“Tonight, intensive activity of the long-range aviation of the Russian Federation is being observed in connection with missile strikes carried out against objects located on the territory of Ukraine,” the Polish operational command reported on the X social network.
“All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace are activated.”
March 24 during a major missile and drone attack against Ukraine, a Russian cruise missile flew into Polish airspace for about 39 seconds. The Polish military said it did not shoot down the plane because it would have endangered local civilians.
