Every year it renews itself and surprises
According to Druskininkai Mayor Ričardas Malinauskas, Druskininkai is looking for something to surprise its guests every year – this year is no exception.
A couple of years ago, in the center of Druskininkai, in the square between the church and the city museum, the sculpture “Sūrutis” was unveiled, giving meaning to the legend of the origin of the resort, and this year, the anniversary year, it is planned to commemorate the personalities who deserve Druskininkai – the first 4 memorial benches dedicated to MK Čiurlionis, K. Dineika, Ž. Lipšić, I. Fonberg will be erected in Druskininkai in the spring, two more benches dedicated to the 1863 uprising and A. Dambrauskas are planned to be built by the business and the community.
In Druskininkai, in the park near the Palace of Culture and Congresses, a bird dedicated to the memory of the poet Justinas Marcinkevičius, a work of sculptor Vidmantas Gylikis and architect Linas Krūgelis, will be erected.
Pontoon bridges will be built on the Druskonis lake in the heart of the resort, where residents and guests of Druskininkai will be able to walk and admire the surroundings.
Another impressive start for Druskininkai this year – the resort will have an attraction center with shops, cafes, an amphitheater, a bus station and a modern waiting room, and the main highlight will be a helium balloon rising from inside the building.
“Above the panoramic restaurant of the TV tower and six nine floors – a helium balloon attached to the building by a special cable will rise to an impressive height of 200 meters. At the moment, the helium balloon has already been ordered and is being manufactured in France, up to 30 people will be able to take off with it at the same time. This impressive project, which was developed for more than 3 years, is the investment of UAB “Kautra”. The company has repeatedly proven its high quality standards, and joint works and projects with the municipality – public transport passenger service, new electric buses, Lynų kelias – create added value for our city,” says Druskininkai Municipality Mayor R. Malinauskas.
The project of the multifunctional center was prepared by the famous architect Gintaras Balčytis, his project was also appreciated by the international community of architects – G. Balčytis was invited to the Venice architecture exhibition, where architecture professionals gather.
This object will blend harmoniously into the resort environment: wooden elements will be used during the reconstruction of the building, Čiurlionis motifs will appear, and the interior space of the building itself will be bright, aesthetic, exclusive – with preserved islands of natural nature.
In the anniversary year, there are many events
According to Druskininkai Cultural Center Director Raimonda Varaškaitė, Druskininkai is a unique city.
“I don’t know a single city in Lithuania where so many nationwide events have been created and become traditional,” she said. – Artistic Easter, Daffodil Flowering Festival, Resort Festival that moves the whole city with an impressive theatrical procession, colorful Tourism Days, ethnocultural events. These are exceptional celebrations that invite not only guests from other Lithuanian cities, but also foreign guests to Druskininki.”
Cultural tourism and the desire to fulfill the cultural expectations of the community and resort guests is an ambitious path that Druskininkai has been following for many years.
“The ideas generated by Druskininkai are often one of the first in Lithuania, and every holiday, every event is cultivated and constantly supplemented with the most innovative forms,” said R. Varaškaitė. – This year we are celebrating the city’s 230th birthday all year round – believe me, how many birthday surprises we have prepared!”

Such an Easter miracle, created by professional artists, can be admired in the Easter ART gallery of contemporary art – even 12 giant-sized, unusual marigolds decorated with an unusual technique will light up even at night.

The end of spring in Druskininkai will be crowned and the beginning of summer will be announced by the Resort festival on May 24-26. It will be a real birthday carnival – with a colorful, inventive and noisy theatrical procession, with concerts by music greats, an indescribably beautiful composition of lights, lasers and pyrotechnics.

Druskininkai, which is celebrating a solid anniversary this year, is trying to spread good emotions both to its residents and to the guests coming to the city. Where to find that source of joy? There are more than one answer”, assured Jūratė Vaitkevičiūtė, representative of Druskininkai Health and Recreation Center AQUA.

According to Druskininkai TVIC director Rimantas Palionis, for all those 230 years, Druskininkai has always been a bold, innovative resort.
“He was always ahead of the times, for example, a century ago a park of 1,000 roses was created there, cultural events were constantly held, and one of the first photo studios in the region opened its doors. Even a Mercedes-Benz car intended for transporting vacationers was the only one in Lithuania at that time,” assured R. Palionis.
What, after all, drew people to the resort like a magnet during those centuries and continues to draw people to relax, create, and heal?
“It is possible that this is the effect of nature and strong mineralized water, and at the same time, good, unique ideas are turned into reality,” assured R. Palionis. – There are many tourist facilities in Druskininkai that create attraction.

All this is currently being designed. It is planned to start implementing the project in a couple of years.
