At the end of March this year, one Spanish court ordered to stop Telegram app’s activities in the country, but this event has nothing to do with Ukrainians’ requests for help distributed on this platform.

The issue raised by the broadcasters was examined case due to infringement of intellectual property. Media companies have complained that their material is being used on Telegram without their consent.

It was decided to suspend Telegram’s activities after the officials of the Virgin Islands, where Telegram is registered as a company, did not respond to the 2023 July. request for information.

The court was looking for information to identify who is behind the accounts allegedly uploading the pirated content.

Facua Consumer Rights Group criticized the decision as disproportionate and warned that it would cause significant harm to millions of users of the social network.

But just days later, Spain’s High Court judge Santiago Pedraz suspended his own order, citing that the investigation focused on individual offenders and not the platform itself.

He asked the police to submit a report on how the temporary ban on the app will affect its users.

Spain’s consumer association said it was “welcomed by the authorities’ decision to carefully consider their actions and the scale of the possible consequences” and hoped the police report would prompt the judge to overturn the decision.
