In the long run, it may happen that European countries will become the main supplier of military aid. However, it will take time before the elites of European countries realize that it is necessary to reanimate the arms industry and prepare for war, instead of enjoying stable geopolitics and diverting war funds to social support. As it was until now.

The US House of Representatives’ vote on aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan is a good sign. For half a year, US Democrats and Republicans have been playing games of political procedures. It would certainly not be correct to say that Mike Johnson, the speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, worked exclusively – a supporter of the possible candidate for the country’s president, Donald Trump.

The legal norms of the US Congress give the Speaker of the House the right to submit for consideration those bills that he personally wants for consideration and adoption. For half a year, Mr. Johnson did not want the aid package for Ukraine to be considered. There are now many versions of why he did this and why he suddenly changed his attitude. From the fact that M. Johnson’s decisions were sanctioned by D. Trump himself (the Speaker of the House of Representatives visited the former president’s ranch in Florida a week ago), the other is that M. Johnson prayed a lot before making his decision. The third is about the fact that the politician’s son decided to study at some US military academy. The Democrats also claim that they gathered a petition in the Congress and addressed to the speaker of the house (such a document, signed by the majority of the members of the House of Representatives, allows to remove the stubbornness of the speaker of the house not giving a vote).

US President Joe Biden’s administration has also been playing political games in the run-up to the November presidential election. Democrats also juggled procedures. First of all, it sought to combine military support for three countries and the security problem of the US southern border (Mexico with the state of Texas) into one law. The last topic is the political concern of US Republicans. While the two main factions of the US “matched up”, the Russian military slowly pushed forward, killing Ukrainian military and civilians.

In the end, the House of Representatives approved the package of laws proposed by Mr. Johnson. More than 60 billion US dollars may mean that the debate is finally over, equilibration with legal norms – as well. Moreover, these laws provide that Ukraine should soon receive more modern ATACAMS ballistic missiles, which can target targets 300 km away.

Maybe even in the next week, as the leaders of the US Democratic Party hope. On Tuesday, the US Senate voted for the package of the law.

However, there are circumstances that raise some concerns about the sustainability of the US provisions. Is the US political class still committed to the concept of helping Ukraine? Despite the fact that the provisions approved in the House of Representatives were born in the womb of US Republicans, more than 100 US congressmen did not vote for aid to Ukraine.

This means that in the future, if the dynamics of the war in Ukraine do not change, there may be even more such skeptics. And if after some time the Ukrainians need US support again, the matter may fall into place again. And the abracadabra of US legal norms begins.

We can only hope that Ukraine will be able to mobilize again, and its army will gradually be saturated with Western weapons. To repel the attacks of the Russian army this year and prepare something unexpected for it this year or next year.
