Red Bull’s Sergio Perez’s contract with the team will expire after this season. In the first five stages, the Mexican even climbed the podium four times, which is a strong argument for a new contract. True, whether Red Bull will decide to keep the veteran remains unclear, as there are many attractive options on the market.

Perez himself would like to stay with the team and is looking to sign a long-term contract. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said that S. Perez is seeking a three-year contract. However, Red Bull cannot promise him that.

“We can’t make a decision yet, but I can say it’s not related to rule changes. Sergio knows what tasks he has to perform. He wanted to sign a new three-year contract with us. We cannot offer that now, but we will find a solution”, H. Marko said.

Meanwhile, Red Bull manager Christian Horner emphasized after the Chinese GP that he is currently satisfied with the pair of drivers:

“Sergio started the season really well and we are happy with our drivers. We will make a decision later this year. We know that Max is on a long-term contract and Sergio is out of contract. I know he would like to extend his contract even tomorrow, but we are not in too much of a hurry. We have a lot to choose from, but I can repeat that we are happy with the current driver pair.”
