The Lithuanian national team begins the European Championship selection Sports

On April 5, Lithuania will meet the Sakartvelos team on the road, and on April 9, Tuesday, they will host the Cyprus national team at Vilnius LFF Stadium.

The meeting in the capital will start at 7:30 p.m., entrance to it is free.

At the start of the camp, the head coach of the national team, Daniel Wimmer, was happy with the mood and attitude of the girls at the start of the camp.

“It’s great to see the girls again after such a long time, after a great cycle in the Nations League where we finished second in the group. We didn’t have a window in February, so it’s been a really long time. But the first impressions are really good, the players are in good shape, in a good mood and we are looking forward to the start of the qualifying competition,” said the German.

The first opponents are Sakartvelo soccer players, with whom the Lithuanians played twice in the League of Nations last year.

In Vilnius, the match ended 0:0, away Lithuanians won even 3:0.

“They have improved, they played two control matches against the North Macedonian national team in February, they won both, so we have a tough match ahead of us,” said the coach about the future opponents.

In this camp, the national team received a pleasant addition – the best Lithuanian footballer of 2022, Ugnė Lazdauskaitė, who has not played for a long time and was recovering from an injury, joined the national team.

“Yes, Ugnė had a serious injury, we certainly won’t put extra pressure on her, it’s just great to see her back again. I expect good performances from her, which she is always capable of, but there will be no pressure for her.

Of course, some other players are missing, we cannot travel with a full squad, but the players who will go will be ready, we will be ready and we are waiting for a very interesting match”, the specialist taught.

After the match in Sakartvele, the Lithuanians will travel back home and will meet the Cypriot soccer players here next Tuesday, and the coach urged the fans to visit the LFF stadium in large numbers.

“It would be great to have some support for the girls, they fought fantastically in the Nations League last year, they work very hard every day and do a great job. Support for the home match against Cyprus is very important for them, of course, and we can influence it with a good performance in Sakartvel, we understand that, we understand our tasks, but we really hope for support here at the LFF stadium”, concluded D. Wimmer.
